The Electron Microscopy Group is located in the School of Metallurgy and Materials. We study all materials: metals, ceramics, polymers, functional and biological.

The group is responsible for the EM Facility of the University of Birmingham, which hosts a number of state-of-the-art instruments including two field emission gun SEMs (a JEOL 7000F and an Environmental SEM), a DualBeam FIB/SEM (FEI Quanta 3D) and a field emission gun TEM (FEI Tecnai F20). The group is applying electron microscopy techniques to study the microstructure and chemistry of all sorts of materials, including super-conductors, alloys, oxides and different biomaterials, at different length scales.

The group has extensive collaboration with other departments in the University of Birmingham and other universities in the Midlands region and hosts visitors from overseas.
